About the Role

The Emergency Care Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective transport of
patients, providing both emergency and non-emergency support. You will be responsible for
assisting individuals who require medical attention while maintaining high standards of care,
safety, and professionalism. Working alongside your crewmate, you will help facilitate smooth

patient transfers, ensuring that all medical and personal care needs are met throughout their journey. This role is vital in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient services within hospitals, private healthcare settings, and event medical services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Support the safe assessment, care, movement and transport of patients in emergency and non-emergency settings, in line with CMC policies and procedures.
● Transfer patients safely using specialist equipment and appropriate manual-handling techniques.
● Assist the senior crew member with patient care, monitoring and treatment within your assessed competence.
● Maintain accurate records of patient care, vehicle checks and equipment use, submitting documentation as required.
● Deliver care and treatment within your assessed competence and in line with relevant best-
practice guidance, including IHCD and JRCALC.
● Drive emergency and non-emergency vehicles safely and legally, following CMC driving
policies and maintaining patient comfort and vehicle condition.
● Obtain and relay relevant patient information while maintaining confidentiality.
● Recognise and report safeguarding concerns, social-care issues and environmental risks.
● Follow infection prevention and control procedures, maintaining clean vehicles, equipment
and garaging facilities.
● Complete vehicle and equipment checks at the start of and during shifts to maintain operational readiness.
● Maintain mandatory training, competencies and continuing professional development.
● Undertake other duties appropriate to the role, responsibilities and qualifications of the
post-holder.
● Communicate compassionately with patients, relatives, colleagues and healthcare
professionals.

No guaranteed minimum hours. Shifts are offered according to operational requirements, and team members are not obliged to accept every shift offered.

Requirements

Essential:


  • Minimum 6 months of experience in health & social care (care home, hospital, or emergency front-line setting).

  • Valid First Response Emergency Care (FREC) Level 3 qualification.

  • Full UK manual driving licence with no driving disqualification within the last 5 years and no more than 6 current penalty points.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of 12 months’ driving experience since obtaining a full UK driving licence

  • Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage workloads efficiently, and remain calm under pressure.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to complete relevant paperwork to the clinical standard

  • Commitment to delivering high- quality patient care and ensuring positive service user experiences.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new skills and situations.


Desirable


  • Driving license category C1.

  • Valid Level 3 CERAD Qualification.

  • FREC4

  • Additional training or certification in safeguarding, mental health first aid, or advanced life support.

  • Previous ambulance care experience in event or emergency medical settings

  • An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  • Verification of qualifications and professional registration.

  • Satisfactory professional references and review of relevant employment history.

  • Driving-licence and driving-history checks where driving forms part of the role.

  • Occupational-health clearance appropriate to the inherent requirements of the position.

  • Evidence of current competence and continuing professional development.
